Ruth Marian Speer
In the death of little Ruth Marian Speer, 3 years of age, daughter of Hardin and Florence Speer, the Grim Reaper has added another angel to the bright cohorts of the heavenly choir. An Easter offering to her adoring parents three years ago, she becomes now their sorrowing Easter sacrifice.
She was the granddaughter of John Speer, the veteran editor of the Lawrence (Kan.) Tribune. Mr. Speer is now retired and superannuated, living with his son, Hardin Speer, but in his editorial days was the prime factor and a power in Kansas slavery troubled politics.
The death of little Ruth adds another sorrow to the grieving heart of her aunt, Mrs Brad H Dubois, who so lately lost her own accomplished daughter.
Mr. and Mrs Brad H Dubois were on the point of leaving the city for Key West and the Floridas, when little Ruth was suddenly stricken with fever, resulting in spinal meningitis. The trip was abandoned and Mrs Dubois became a constant attendant at the bedside.
