Hardin Speer Drops Dead Denver Colo Feb 27
aged forty two, youngest son of the famous abolitionist of Kansas, John Speer, dropped dead today apparently of heart disease. His father John Speer was associated with JOHN BROWN of Osawatomie and James H Lane in the abolitionist agitation that preceded the civil war.

Hardin Speer Died in Denver While Taking a Cold Bath
Denver, Feb 27
Hardin Speer, the youngest son of the Kansas abolitionist, John Speer, dropped dead in the bathroom of his home this morning while taking a sponge bath. The shock of the cold water upon his weakened heart was the cause of death. He was 43 years old.
Hardin Speer was a printer from his boyhood. His father, John Speer, with the famous JOHN BROWN OF OSAWATOMIE, and JAMES H LANE, has been credited with having a great deal to do with starting the civil war.
John Speer for thirty-six years was editor and owner of Lawrence, (Kas.) Tribune and a rab'd abolitionist. Before his death, several years ago, John Speer wrote a biography of James H Lane and a history of Kansas.
