Cynthia Ann Compton, 55, of Auburn and formerly of Garrett died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at 10:50 a.m. in her residence.

Mrs. Compton moved to the Garrett area 17 years ago, coming from Kentucky. She had worked at Handy & Harman in Kendallville.

She was born February 20, 1953, in Martin, Kentucky, to Freddie and Rendie (Meade) Spears. She was married on October 31, 1969, in Kentucky to Jimmy Luther Compton.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Ira and Abbie Compton of Garrett; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cher and Aster Collins of McDowell, Kentucky, Tammy and Hawley Wicker of Auburn, and Emogene and Mark Gayheart of Garrett; ten grandchildren; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Adrian Lamartz of Kentucky, Jesse and Julie Lamartz of Avilla, Danny Spears of Kentucky, Coby and Cloteen Spears of Kentucky, and Trill and Lori Meade of Warsaw; and three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Yvonne and Randy Gayheart of Kentucky, Rosemary and Larry Risner of Kentucky, and Avenell and James Compton of Michigan; a Godson, Dylan Courier of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Christine Lamartz and Janice Sue Cox.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 20, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Mount Calvary United Baptist Church in Stroh with Pastor Willie Collins and Mark Gayheart officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Garrett. Casketbearers will be Aster Collins, Hawley Wicker, Matt Gayheart, Arron Collins, Brandon Slone, and John Slone.

Calling will be Thursday, December 18, 2008, after 4 p.m. and all day Friday, December 19, 2008, at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Stroh where an evening service will be held at 6 p.m. both nights. Preferred memorials are to the family.

Arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
