Betty F. Sparks, age 85, a long time resident of Wenatchee, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Central Washington Hospital. She was born on July 21, 1922, in St. John, KS to parents John and Lottie (Barker) Certain. The youngest of six children, she moved with her family to the Wenatchee Valley as a young girl, where they settled in the Squilchuck area before moving to East Wenatchee. During the years that Vern was the General Manager of the Wenatchee Chiefs Baseball Team, Betty operated the concession stands at Recreation Park. Betty worked and managed the stores from 1959, until the mid 1980's, when they sold the stores and retired. Following their retirement, they enjoyed traveling with their friends to places which included Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Fiji. She also enjoyed dancing at the Senior Center up until a month ago. Betty is survived by two sets of twin sons; Garry (Patti) Sparks of Wenatchee, Jerry (Nancy) Sparks of Snohomish and Jay Sparks and Jeff (Vickie) Sparks, both of Wenatchee. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Vern, in 2002; also, three sisters and two brothers. Following a Private Family Entombment, a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Wenatchee, with Pastor Kel Groseclose officiating. For those who wish, hours of Visitation will be Monday, April 28, 2008, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
