Daughter of Alonzo A & Essie Gentry Sparks, wife of Howard W Cox
Beulah Gladys Cox, age 93, of Mattoon, passed away at 4:55 a.m. Sunday, June 10, 2001, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. E.E. Elliott officiating.
Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon until service time Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home.
Beulah was born January 7, 1908, in Cumberland County, a daughter of Alonzo A. Sparks and Essie Gentry Sparks. She married Howard W. Cox on April 16, 1932. He passed away December 14, 1965. She was also preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.
Survivors include two sons, Carl W. Cox and wife Jan Kelly Cox of Mattoon and Dr. Howard W. Cox and wife Mary Sellner Cox of Bloomfield, Mich.; one sister, Ellen Reed of Mattoon; three grandchildren, Carla Cox Waters and husband Tim of Watseka, Steven L. Cox and wife Alisa of Pineland, Fla. David Cox and wife Cheryl of Mattoon; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cox was formerly employed as a legal secretary for forty five years for the firm of Kiger and Dilsaver and later Dilsaver and Gilkerson. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School class. Beulah served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and taught a children's Sunday School class for several years.
Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church.
