Jewel Mae A. Sparks, 79, died Tuesday afternoon at Bulloch Memorial Hospital after a short illness. The Bulloch County native had lived in Statesboro most of her life and was a member of the Statesboro First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Wallie Sparks, Statesboro; three daughters, Mrs. Aline S. Sowell, Savannah, Mrs. Cleo S. Hodges and Mrs. Dorothy Mae S. Lanier, both of Statesboro; three sisters, Mrs. Inez A. Crosby, Metter, Mrs. Doris A. Chester, Statesboro, and Mrs. Marie A. Taylor, Sylvania; three brothers, Walter Allmond, Charleston, S.C., Mose Allmond Jr., Chattanooga, Tenn., and Sidney Allmond, Metter; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service for Mrs. Sparks will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Statesboro First Baptist Church with Dr. William Perry and the Rev. Mittry Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Smith-Tillman Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
