William C. Sparkman was born about 1838 in Williamson Co., TN, the son of James Green and Delany Sparkman. He enlisted for service at Camp Trusdale with his brother Joseph A. Sparkman on October 19, 1861 in Co. D 32 Reg't TN Infantry. He was captured at the Battle of Ft. Donelson, TN on Feb. 16, 1862 and was paroled on Sept. 12, 1862. The unit changed names in 1863 to Co., C. On July 30, 1863 he was sent to Polk Hospital, Rome, GA where he died on the Oct. 17, 1863 of Consumption. He was a 3d Sergeant. His brother Joseph A. Sparkman, who also was never married, died at Nashville, TN on Feb.20, 1862.
