Lloyd Ray Spannagel was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Ash Grove Twp., Shelby County, IL, a son of Edward Lewis and Mildred Grace Huffmaster Spannagel. He married Wilma Lou Ragan Dec. 8, 1949.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma; son, Gregory John (Michelle) Spannagel; daughters, Dianna Lynn (Donald) Gibson, Patricia Ann (John) Williams and Barbara Lou (Bradley) Ohnesorge; a brother, Glen (Betty) Spannagel; sisters, Ruth (Robert) Kohnert and Donna (Larry) Schultz; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren;
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence Spannagel; sister, Grace Knop; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Knop.

∼Lloyd Ray Spannagel, 80, of Strasburg, Illinois was called by the Lord to his heavenly home at 11:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at his residence.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg, Illinois with the Rev. Steven Becker officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Strasburg. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before service Thursday, both at the church. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, Illinois. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, or to the donor's choice. Lloyd entered this earthly life on Sept. 6, 1931, in Ash Grove Township, Shelby County, Illinois the son of Edward Louis and Mildred Grace (Huffmaster) Spannagel. He received the new birth in holy baptism in the home of his parents on Sept. 30, 1931. Lloyd was confirmed on March 25, 1945, by the Rev. L. Stuebe at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg, Illinois and given 1 Timothy 6:12 as his confirmation verse. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Strasburg High School with the class of 1949.
He married Wilma Lou Ragan on Dec. 8, 1949, in St. Paul's parsonage, with the Rev. Gilmore A. Lueck officiating. Their witnesses were Bernard and Zona Gail (Webner) Doty.
Lloyd was previously employed at Youngscraft Cabinetry in Strasburg, Illinois and spent many years doing agricultural spraying in the 2-4-D days. He retired from Blaw-Knox, Mattoon, Illinois with 30-plus years of service. Lloyd was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg, Illinois and served his church as an usher, elder, financial secretary and president for three years.
His family, friends and his church were all important to Lloyd. He took pride in watching his family participate in sports and other activities. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, flying and building airplanes and sitting under the shade tree on the driveway visiting with passers-by.
