ABELL, SARAH SPALDING, 90, born March 31, 1922 in Lebanon, KY, died December 31, 2012 at Oaklawn Nursing and Rehab. She was a member of both Holy Family and St. Bernadette parishes, and was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Abell Sr., and parents, William and Mary Acquin Spalding; six siblings, and one son-in-law. Survivors include a brother, Joseph M. Spalding; two sisters, Sr. Rita Spalding SCN and Mary Acquin Schneider; children, Damian Abell (Linda), Mary Burke Stephens (Rick), Sally Williams (Terry), George Abell (Debbie), Julia Berger Carothers (Robert), Bill Abell (Michelle), Joe Abell (Ronni), Martha Osborne, Donna Jackson (David), Vincent Abell (Marla), Theresa Melhorn (Bob), Carolyn Breit (Larry), Rita McCubbin (Perry), Laura Shaw (Chris) and Joyce Abell; 26 grandchildren, Angela, Michael, Sarah, Hilary, Kevin, Marty, Adam, Jason, David Andrew, Aaron, Kristen, Kerri, Kimberly, George, Burke, Lucy, Ellie, Christopher, Cody, Bradley, Leah, Abbey, Clayton, Jeffrey, Taylor and Sydney; and 17 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2013 at Holy Family Church, 3926 Poplar Level Road. Burial will be private. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association, 8588 Potter Park Dr., Suite 500, Sarasota, FL 34238 or to the charity of choice.
