CAPT. GIDEON SOUTHWORTH(5) [Nathaniel(4), Nathaniel(3), Constant(2), Edward(1)], b. in Middleboro, Mass., 5 Sept., 1718; d. there 25 Oct., 1788; to. there, 24 Dec, 1741, Rebecca Ellis, b. in Middleboro, 1 July, 1721, d. 19 June, 1782, dau. of Joe and Elizabeth Ellis.
He served as lieutenant in Capt. Joseph Tinkham's company, detached from Col. Gamaliel Bradford's regiment, 1759; marched on the alarm from Fort William Henry. He was captain in Col. George Watson's regiment of the Second Militia Company of Middleboro for about ten years from 1762.
Resident of Middleboro, Mass., where his children were born. Children. — Southworth 722 i. Jael8, b. 26 Sept., 1742, in Middleboro; to., 5 Feb., 1784, Abner Williams, of Taunton. Elizabeth8, b. 28 Dec, 1745; d. 18 Sept., 1750; unm. Rebeckah8, b. 26 Dec, 1746. Gideon8, b. 16 May, 1750; d. 13 Jan., 1827. and tradition says he was by blood related to Oliver Cromwell. He settled in Taunton.
