On 8/22/1862 he was mustered in. He died of disease.

The unit's muster out roll states that he "Died in hospital at Memphis Tenn. Aug. 15, 1863. Dis. Chron. Diar." He was one of at least 64 members of the regiment to die from the debilitating effects of chronic diarrhea also known to soldiers as the Bloody Flux, the Summer Complaint, Camp Diarrhea, the Screamers, the Virginia Quickstep and the Tennessee Trots.
