A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Ellis and Mellie Byrd Sorrells. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Bonner E. Arrington, 12 Apr 1927-01 May 2001; two sons, an infant and Jerry "Tim" Arrington; one brother, J.D. Sorrells; four sisters, Laverne Edwards, Hazel Pilkington, Mildred Gibbs, and Anne Guy; and two sister-in-laws, Mary Ruth Nelson and Lori Arrington. Betty enjoyed being a mother. She was a devoted Christian, an avid reader, and a member of Balsam Baptist Church.
