Douglas served as a Second Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24M #44-41843, 372nd Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Ottertail County, Minnesota prior to the war.

Douglas' B-24 crashed in the south Pacific due to battle damage. He survived the crash. He was picked up by PBY OA-10A #43-33885. During take of this rescue plane took a nose dive and Albert was then declared "Missing In Action" in the crash of the PBY.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

He also has a memorial marker at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

OA-10A #43-33885 made a rescue attempt landing and picking up the rest of the crew. During takeoff the plane took a nose dive and the below Pilot & Co-Pilot of B-24M #44-41843 were declared "Missing". The rest of the crew are believed to have survived.
