|Birth: ||Jan. 14, 1851|
|Death: ||Jan. 24, 1919|
She was the eldest daughter of Toros Sookasian of Malatya. Her mother's name is not listed on her death certificate and it is assumed to be Toros's wife Mariam but not certain, as there does seem to be a large gap between the birth dates of Toros's two oldest children and the younger ones. Her year of birth is also not certain, as the disperate years of 1851 and 1858 have both been offered. Her cemetery record says died at age 67. The birthdate used here is the one on her death certificate. She married Sarkis Esayian and had three sons and two daughters. Known children were Samuel, John, George, Elmas, and Anna. One son immigrated to America as early as 1894, probably one of the first Armenians of Malatya to come to Philadelphia. Their other children did so in the years around 1907. Finally in 1913 Sarkis and Diramayr, along with their daughter-in-law Margaret (wife of John, who was already in Philadelphia) and granddaughter Mary left Malatya. They were likely the last of the Sookasians to leave Malatya before the Armenian Genocide of 1915. They all arrived in America in November 1913, though two and half weeks apart. While Sarkis, Margaret, and Mary had left from Cherbourg, France and came through Ellis Island, Diramayr immigrated through the port of Philadelphia from Liverpool, England. The reason for her separation from the rest at some point is unknown. She reached Philadelphia on November 17, 1913 where she was reunited with her husband who had arrived at Ellis Island on November 2, not to mention her sons who had been there for up to twenty years. Diramayr died at 3pm on January 24, 1919 of pneumonia caused by influnza. She was buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Philadelphia (Section Z, Lot 153) until the death of her husband in 1934, at which time Diramayr was exhumed and they were buried together at West Laurel Hill Cemetery. It should be noted that their stone was likely a later addition because both of their death years on it are incorrect.
