Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott for Mary Joyce Sonnier Roy, 79, who died on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette surrounded by her family.
Interment will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Scott.
Reverend Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Dawn Roy and Kristy Bourque. Giftbearers will be Rachel Faul and Dylan Roy. Eulogist will be Joseph Zanetti. Valerie Andrus, Tony Broussard, Richard Comeaux and Travis Matte will perform the musical selections for the services; "Amazing Grace," "Be Not Afraid," "Ave Maria," "J'irai La Voir Un Jour" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain".
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 61 years Leo Roy, Jr.; her two daughters, Cecilia R. Vincent and Christine R. Trahan and husband Ricky; two sons, Raymond Roy and his wife Ann and Blaine Roy and his wife Dawn; her sister, Eva Dale Mouton and her husband Kenneth; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.
Mary Joyce was native of Lafayette and a Scott resident for many years. She will always be remembered as the "Matriarch" of her family, always giving of herself to others first. She loved cooking and cherished spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
Mary Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Judith Hebert Sonnier; her daughter, Sandra F. Roy; one brother, John Ashton Sonnier; and an infant sister, Marion Sonnier.
Pallbearers will be Blaine Roy, Raymond Roy, Jason Vincent, Jeremy Bourque, Travis Roy, and Jonathan Roy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Taylor Roy, Derek Vincent, Nicholas Franks, Mitch Bourque, Dylan Roy, Ayden Roy, Dustin Vidrine and Brock Vidrine.
