AUSTIN -- The funeral for Norman M. Sollie will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. James I. Mikkelson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Mr. Sollie, 84, of Austin, retired owner of Austin Cab Co., Austin Ambulance and Austin Towing, died Tuesday (Feb. 10, 1998) at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.
Born July 10, 1913, in Westby, Wis., he graduated from high school in Lanesboro, Minn., and attended General Motors Technical Institute and Winona Teachers College. On Sept. 16, 1933, he married Thelma J. Storlie in Peterson. She died June 6, 1978. He married Gertrude Jones Jacobson on Jan. 11, 1986, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin; she preceded him in death on June 13, 1997. Mr. Sollie was a Minnesota Highway Patrol officer from 1942 to 1954 and owned and operated Austin Cab Co., Austin Ambulance and Austin Towing from 1952 until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Austin Rotary Club, American Red Cross, Minnesota State Patrol Troopers Association, Sons of Norway, Isaak Walton and the Moose Club. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards and games.
Survivors include a son, Norman of Mercer Island, Wash.; a daughter, Janet Mrs. David) Dunn of San Rafael, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Two sons, a sister and two brothers preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
