Soviet graphic artist and painter. People's Artist of the USSR (1958). Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts since 1947. Winner of Lenin (1965), five of Stalin from 1942 to 1951 and the USSR State Prize (1975). He was born in the village of Tsaritsyno near Moscow. He was one of Kukryniksov, the creative team of Soviet graphic artists and painters, in which, besides him, were full members of the USSR Academy of Arts, People's Artists of the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor M.V. Kupriyanov (1903-1991), P. Krylov (1902-1990).
