Carlos "Papa" Soffe, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and avid golfer, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 15, 2012, surrounded by those who loved him. He was 92.

Carlos was born on a small farm in South Jordan, Utah, one of nine children, to Lucy and Roy Soffe. Carlos soon discovered his talent and passion for sports and athletics. Carlos excelled in varsity sports for Jordan High School. He was the captain of the football team, played for the basketball team, and served as senior class president.

His love of sports continued through his college education at the University of Utah, where he lettered in three different sports. His Ute's football team took the Sun Bowl in 1938. Carlos was an avid Utes fan for the remainder of his life—red was his favorite color.

A proud American, Carlos served his country in World War II as a fighter pilot for the Navy, flying off of the carrier Essex. He was awarded with the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Carlos was a feisty, charming, and loving man who was most content when surrounded by his family and those he loved. Carlos is survived by beautiful wife Gloria; daughter Carla and husband Mike; daughter Suzy and husband Jerry; son Scott and wife Julie; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to send a special thanks to Jamie and Juan, our angels on earth, for their outstanding and compassionate care of Papa during his final days. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Harmony Hospice, www.harmonyhospice.com, in his name.

There will be a celebration of Carlos' life on Thursday, January 19, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah. There will be a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3104 South Highland Drive.
