Irma Claire Hicks was born July 18, 1926 in Norway, KS to Laverne and Amanda (Siemsen) Soderstrom. She was baptized into the Christian faith and confirmed at Messiah Lutheran Church. She was raised in Lindsborg, Kansas and graduated from high school there. She attended Bethany College, KS and taught school for a year before marrying James W. Hicks on May 25, 1947. Irma was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in OKC where she was active in the altar guild, church council, choir, organist, and WELCA. She and her husband were active in several RV groups and traveled throughout the country. She was a member of the OKC Scandinavian Club and cochaired the annual smorgasbord dinner for many years. She was a volunteer at Deaconess Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 53 years, Wally. She is survived by 2 sons, James and wife Lynn of Harrah and Steve and wife Ingrid of Edmond; 3 grandsons, Steve W. Hicks and wife Geetha of KC, James L. Hicks and wife Sharon of Iowa City, and Jonathan Hicks of Harrah; one sister, Doris Carlson and husband Bill of Lindsborg; and many nieces and nephews. Her family thanks Dr. Gasbarra and the staff of Mercy Hospital, Heart Hospital, and Edmond Specialty Hospital for their compassionate care. Memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
