"The Elwood Bulletin" [Elwood, Gosper Co., NE], Thursday, 18 Apr 1940:
Death came to Mrs. Chas Leggott, 46, at her home north of Elwood last Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Leggott had been ill the past few years with a heart ailment and had also suffered a slight stroke several years ago. She had only been able to leave the house a few times since returning from Boulder, Colo., in February where she had attended the funeral of her father. Thursday while at the breakfast table she became ill and passed away that afternoon. Mrs. Leggott was well known in this community, having been a resident here 38 years.
Mabel Claire Snyder was born December 3, 1894, in Meckling, South Dakota, and moved to Gosper county with her parents when she was eight years old. November 24, 1914, she was united in marriage to Chas. Leggott and to this union were born Vaughn [sic] and Doris, who are both at home.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, two children, her mother, Mrs. C. F. Snyder and two sisters, Inez and Ledra, all of Boulder, Colo., and many other relatives and friends. Her father preceded her in death February 26, 1940.
Becoming a member of the Methodist church at an early age, she had always been an active member, her church and home taking first place in her life. Even after her health failed she attended church twice each Sunday. For many years she taught a Sunday school class in the local church.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with Rev. Michel in charge. During the services Mrs. Viggo Carlsen sang "Good Night and Good Morning," and a mixed quartette composed of Mrs. Carlsen, Mrs. E. G. Grannis, J. M. Reynolds and George Petersen sang "Going Down the Valley" and "There Will Be No Fears in Paradise." Mrs. R. W. Tilden was accompanist. Six nephews acted as pallbearers. Interment was in the Elwood cemetery.
