Margery Hills Snyder left this life to be with her Lord on Aug. 18, 2008. Marge was born Sept. 5, 1920, to Rayford B. and Eula Mae (Link) Hills in Rule. After living her early life in Stamford, she graduated from Lubbock High School and Texas Tech. She was married to Robert Lynn (Bob) Snyder on April 23, 1943, in Lubbock. She was a homemaker all her life and was devoted to her family and friends. Marge enjoyed being a partner in Bob's endeavors, serving as hostess for numerous events over the years. She loved cooking, gardening, bridge and reading.
Marge was very active in many civic organizations, volunteering with United Way, Junior League of Lubbock, the Board of Directors of St. Mary's Hospital, the Maid of Cotton and the Ranching Heritage Center. She was a longtime member of the Lubbock Womens' Club, First United Methodist Church, Chapter CF of PEO and Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae. A favorite activity in her years as a grandmother was constructing and designing gingerbread houses for her own, as well as friend's children and grandchildren. At last count, well over 100 had been decorated, shared and even donated for auction.
Margery leaves behind a son, Hills Snyder and wife Caralyn of San Antonio; daughter, Lynn Hooker and husband Bob of El Reno, Okla.; grandchildren, Scott Tonroy and wife Julie of Weatherford, Zach Tonroy and wife Carrie of Jacksonville, Texas, Max Snyder of San Francisco, Calif., Utah Snyder of San Antonio, Lee Ann Kersey and husband Jerry of Yukon, Okla., Ruthie Hooker of Mineral Wells, Sonjia Hooker of Giddings, Josh Hooker of Weatherford, and Theresa Harper and husband Mark of Sherman; great-grandchildren, Harlee Hooker and Justine Kersey of Oklahoma, Kylie Burt of Savoy, and Drea and Remy Tonroy of Jacksonville, Texas; beloved cousin, Sue Yandell and husband Howard of Lubbock; devoted companion, Mable Yates of Lubbock; and several nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bob in 1978; special friend, David Weaver; brothers-in-law, Paul Flood, Fred Snyder, Jr. and Dick Snyder; and sisters-in-law, Mary Snyder McCrary, Frances Snyder Flood, Nell Snyder and Anne Snyder.
Marge adored her family and friends and was happiest when spending time with children and grandchildren. She was a beautiful and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed so very much by all who knew her. Her sense of humor, wit and caring spirit endeared her to so many.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock under the direction of Rix Funeral Home. Interment will follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery.
