CMS (Ret) Gary A. Snyder, age 75, of Crestview, Florida passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at North Okaloosa Medical Center.
Gary was born on November 18, 1939 in Peoria, Illinois to H.H. and Lois Snyder. In 1957, he graduated from East Peoria High School. In 1961, Gary joined the United States Air Force and served honorably for 26 years. After his retirement from active duty he worked as a DOD employee at Keesler AFB, Andrews AFB and Eglin AFB. During Gary’s active duty years, he won many awards, including the Meritious Service Medal, AF Commendation Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award, Vietnam Service Medal, with four Bronze Stars to name just a few. He also won Outstanding Civilian Award several times. His military career led him to Missouri, Puerto Rico, Guam, Vietnam, Massachusetts, Texas, Germany and Florida.
On August 13, 1977, he married the love of his life, Nancy Tanner Wallace. He was a life-time member of the Grand Lodge of A.F. and A.M. of Hilton Lodge No. 1143; 32nd degree Mason of Valley of Pensacola; and Shriner, Almas Temple, Washington D.C. He loved traveling, cribbage, outdoors activities, and was an avid star trek fan.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Timothy Ross Snyder. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son, granddaughters, grandsons, several cousins and six cats.
A Memorial Service will be held at Crestview First United Methodist Church, 599 8th Avenue, Crestview, FL 32536 on March 2, 2015 beginning at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend J. J. McDaniel officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
