Clara was orphaned as a young girl and raised in Toledo, Ohio by Emma's sister, Julia Anna Marie Petee Hogle, or "Aunt June". She was 15 years old and working in a bakery when she met Kelsey. They went to Cedar Point Amusement Park on their first date. Clara is fondly remembered by her children and grandchildren as a fantastic baker. She was famous for always having a jar of homemade sugar cookies in the kitchen and the smell of freshly baked parker house rolls wafting through the house.
