Beverly Claire Clark, a long time resident of Alpine died January 18, 2002 at the age of 68. She was a daughter of Herman G. Snodgrass and Beatrice Snodgrass. She was born on August 29, 1933 in Riverside, California and moved to Mount Helix with her family in 1946. She moved with her family in 1946. She moved with her family to Alpine in 1971. She graduated from Colorado State University, and held a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Hawaii along with a lifetime teacher's credential. She was named as an Outstanding Teacher in the National City School District and was hired by San Diego State to train student teachers. After she married, she moved to Okinawa Japan with her husband and taught at a military school. She was a community representative and an influential voice in local and state politics for many years. The record will show that she had the longest tenure on the Alpine Planning Group and was a long time member of the Republican County Central Committee (19 yrs.). She was elected and served as the first Board President on the Rural Fire Protection District. She was an effective political adviser to many previous and current local elected officials and wrote editorial columns in several East County and San Diego newspapers. During college she was President of the Young Republicans. She is survived by her husband of 38 years: Waldo L. Clark Jr., five children, W. Lee Clark III, Christopher Herman Lee Clark, Jennifer Swanson (and Clark), Rebecca Lee Clark, George Lee Clark and two grandchildren and a sister, Barbara Joane Snodgrass Mau. A memorial service is planned for Friday, January 25, 2002 at 12 p.m. at the Alpine Community Church, 2225 Victoria Drive, Alpine followed by a graveside service at the Alpine Cemetery at 3 p.m.
