The Tribune, San Luis Obispo, CA 17 July 2001: Albert Smythe - Alberta Smythe, 73, a longtime resident of Paso Robles died Monday, July 23, 2001, at her residence. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church in Paso Robles. Mrs. Smythe was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Paso Robles. She graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1945 and was a member of the high school's Championship Girls Basketball team. During World War II she played the piano at the Paso Robles USO. She later moved to Fresno where she worked as a printer at the Fresno County Library for 30 years. Mrs. Smythe loved dancing, reading, crossword puzzles, needle work, crocheting and cross-stitching. She was a volunteer at the local library for many years and was involved with the Paso Robles Historical Society and Senior Citizens Center. She was also a member and past chaplain of the Paso Robles VFW Women's Axillary and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. Mrs. Smythe is survived by her daughters, Linda Kaufman of Marina and Janet Smythe of Corpus Christi, Texas; granddaughters, Lindsey Cabanilla of Monterey, Rebecca Kaufman of Marina, Sara Garcia-Smythe-Hamil of Newport News, Va., Raquel Garcia-Smythe and Susana Garcia-Smythe, both of Corpus Christi; brother Dan Renke of Lafayette; sister Phyllis Savage of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and several nieces. Memorial Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Central Coast Hospice or the Paso Robles Veterans of Foreign Wars. Arrangements are under the direction of Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home of Paso Robles.
