She married Horace Neldon Smoot, her high school sweetheart, in the Salt Lake Temple on January 24, 1939. Lola was active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent her entire life in service within its organizations, but her special love was genealogy and temple work. After she was widowed she was called to serve as a full time proselyting missionary in Texas, where she made several lasting friendships.
Together with her husband of 41 years she raised four children and enjoyed her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by “Ned”, on August 30, 1980 and lived out the remainder of her 22 years missing her eternal companion. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Tonya.
Lola is survived by her four children: Paul (Linda) Smoot, Terry (Marcia) Smoot, LeAnne (Thomas) Sorensen, and Carol (Mike) McLaughlin, 30 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, her brother, Dell Cox and her sister, Carma Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 7, at 11:00 a.m. in the Centerville Eighth Ward, 2110 N. Main, Centerville. There will be a viewing Wednesday evening, November 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah, and prior to the service on Thursday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
