Edith Luella Smith was born at Jamesville, N.Y. on September 9, 1860. There she lived until claimed as a bride by Spencer A. Bishop, an early-day bullwhacker through Wyoming territory, with a ranch on Lower LaPrele. They were married in Jamesville March 5, 1884 and immediately came to Wyoming traveling the last part of their journey from Rock Creek to Ft. Fetterman by early-day stagecoach.

Mrs. Bishop made her home on the LaPrele ranch until her husband died in 1914. A few years following she lived on the ranch of her son, Clark, near Chalk Buttes, moving to town to spend her last remaining years.

Mr. and Mrs. Bishop were blessed with twelve children, two daughters preceding their mother in death. The surviving children are: L. C. Bishop of Douglas; Clarence Bishop of Kellogg, Ida.; Oren of Memphis, N. Y.; Maude Ebbert, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Edith Covington, Denver, Colo.; Spencer of Malin, Ore.; Arthur of Bremerton, Wash.; Cecil of Cody, Wyo.; Mrs. Edna Wolfe and Mrs. Mabel Rockwell, both of Midwest. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Oren Smith of Jamesville, N. Y.
