FREEDOM - Janet Rosella (Smith) Boynton, 69, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 19 at her daughter's residence in Unity. She was born in Unity on Feb. 16, 1942, the daughter of Bernard Dobson Smith and Marjorie Pearl (Stevens) Smith. She attended Unity-Freedom High School, graduating in 1960.
Janet worked in several different capacities through the years, the longest being Orion Ropeworks (formerly Crowe Rope) from which she retired in 2010.
She enjoyed gardening, volunteering at the Winslow Public Library, and spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. She also enjoyed doing genealogy and was a member of the Taconnet Falls Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society. She was also a member of the Freedom Cemetery Committee, Budget Committee and Freedom Recreation Committee. She enjoyed traveling and most recently had visited Scotland, a country she had always wanted to see.
She was predeceased by her father, Bernard Smith; mother Marjorie Smith; former husband Irving Bruce Boynton; sister Carlene Smith; brother Cecil Smith; and brother-in-law Lawrence Wyman.
Janet is survived by her children, Christopher L. Boynton of Freedom, David G. Boynton and his wife, Chang, of Leesburg, Va., and New York City, and their children, Jessica and Michael, Julianna Shibles and her husband, Kendall of Unity, and their children, Kendric, Chantelle and Charliza; sisters, Gladys Holmes and her husband, Clinton, of Knox, and Charlene Wyman of Pittsfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom. (Morning Sentinel 8/22/2011)
