Anchorage resident Phyllis J. Morrow, 68, died of cancer Jan. 31, 2000, at home. A memorial service was held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 12310 Lorraine St., Anchorage, with Dr. George Gilchrist officiating.
Mrs. Morrow was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Moscow, Idaho. She attended Colfax High School in Colfax, Wash. Mrs. Morrow moved with her family to Alaska in 1957. She has resided in Paxson, Chitina, Northway, Valdez and Anchorage. Mrs. Morrow was very active in Christian women's ministries groups. She taught Bible studies, counseled members of the church, spoke at retreats and served on ministry boards. She attended Trinity Presbyterian Church. Christian music was a daily part of Mrs. Morrow's life. She not only enjoyed listening to Christian music, but also composed worship choruses. Mrs. Morrow also played the organ and piano as well as sang during worship services. Mrs. Morrow enjoyed oil, painting, sewing, needlework, photography, home decorating, gardening and remodeling her home. Mrs. Morrow was a homemaker and mother. Her family reminisced: ''Mom's greatest desire was to serve Christ. As a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, musician, artist, teacher and counselor, she earnestly sought to follow Christ's teachings and the Holy Spirit's leading. She was a mighty prayer warrior.'' Her brother, Howard Smith, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her Husband, Jack Morrow of Anchorage; sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Penny Morrow of Anchorage, Chris and Sharon Morrow of Juneau, and Brian and Jennifer Morrow of Roseburg, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Dave Spicer of Denver; brother, Quentin Smith of San Jose, Calif.; sister, Rachelle Bryson of Centralia, Wash.; and nine grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Anchorage Rescue Mission, 2823 E. Tudor Road, Anchorage 99507. Mrs. Morrow's cremated remains were inurned at Angelus Memorial Park. Arrangements were by Anchorage Funeral Home.
