Lifelong Alaskan Helena I.M. Smith, 20, died July 11, 2007, in Anchorage. Visitation was held with a service at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St.. Mother Alice Lawrence officiated. A reception was also held at the home of Mother Lawrence in Anchorage. Pallbearers were Armando Walker Jr., Rigoberto Walker, John David Richardson and Donald J. Smith. Burial was at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ms. Smith was born June 19, 1987, in Anchorage and attended school through the 11th grade. She lived briefly in Fairbanks in May and June of this year before returning to Anchorage. She was a member of Holy Family Cathedral and enjoyed beading, listening to her music and singing, and writing poetry. She was a devoted mother and loved spending time with her son. Her family wrote that she was "outgoing, spoke her mind (and was) always in a happy mood, despite her ups and downs. She loved everything in life. She was a devoted mother to her son, Deaveon."
Survivors include her father, Armando Walker Sr.; mother, Donna M. Smith; sister, Amanda M. Walker; brothers, Armando A. Walker Jr. and Rigoberto G. Walker; son, Deaveon W. Walker; grandmothers, Helen H. Smith and Irma Perez; grandfathers, Timothy Smith Jr. and Henry Walker; aunts, Patricia Brown, Geraldine Tall, Priscilla Hunter, Tenisha and Beverly; uncles, Albert Smith, Timothy Smith Jr., Donald Smith, Stanislaus Smith, Rigoberto and Raynaldo; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
