Catherine was born in Hinckley (parish of St. Mary), Leicestershire. She was probably the daughter of John Smith of Hinckley and Ann Hinks of Stoke Golding, Leicestershire.
Catherine married William Burdett on February 2, 1818 at St. Mary's in Hinckley.

After William emigrated to Philadelphia in 1841, Catherine and her children moved around Nottingham, from Radford (Broxtow, South) to Hyson Green to St. Nicholas parish (Park Registration District). Between 1861-1870, Catherine and her daughter Elizabeth emigrated to Philadelphia, where she died of "debility" six years later.
