Carra Smith Hughey, 95, of Texarkana, Texas, formerly of Jackson, Mississippi, passed into God's hands, on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at St. Michael's Hospital following a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Excell White and Bill Hughey and one brother, Alfred Smith. She is survived by one brother, Sam William Smith of Jackson, MS; two daughters, Linda Cooper and her husband Robert Kidd, from Gainesville, Georgia, and Gloria Duddlesten and her husband Mike Duddlesten from Texarkana, Texas. She was a loving grandparent to her grandchildren, Kim and David Daines from Texarkana; Kevin and Vicki Duddlesten from Phoenix AZ; Judith and Mike Hodge from Hawaii; Teresa Weaver from Atlanta, Georgia; and Sandy Weaver from Sewanee, GA. There are numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews, all of whom were loved dearly and thought of daily by her.
Mrs. Hughey was active in the Eastern Star, her church and other organizations. After she retired from the Mississippi State Board of Health in 1982, she began traveling and toured all but two states in the United States, 8 countries in Europe, enjoyed 3 cruises and many of the islands in the Caribbean. Ms. Hughey was a member of Daniel Memorial Baptist Church, Jackson, Mississippi, for 45 years before moving to Raymond, MS where she was a member of Raymond First Baptist Church. She had many professionals and friends who aided her in her last months at Reunion Plaza in Texarkana, TX. They made her life enjoyable by being around them for which the family is thankful.
Visitation and the celebration of the life of Carra Smith Hughey will be held by Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, Mississippi. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. and the graveside service at Lakewood Memorial Park.
