DEATH OF MRS. BASIGER

All Larned was shocked early Saturday morning as the words " Mrs. Basiger is dead" was passed from lip to lip. The shock was all the greater as she was her usual bright self at several social affairs during the past week, having spent the evening before until after 10 o'clock at the Blackwell home, and it was hard to realize that the heart was still, and the husband was called upon to bear the hardest blow a loving husband can bear, the death of a beloved wife. We ask why she was taken - why does this have to be when she had so much to live for, but there is a Supreme Power before whom we must all bow, and try to realize it is all for the best.

Funeral services were held at her home Monday afternoon at two o'clock by her pastor, Dr. Coltman. The B. F. Larned W. R. C. No. 61, of which organization she was a charter member, attended in a body and conducted the closing ceremony in a beautiful and impressive manner, each member laying their little offering of flowers at the conclusion of the prayer of the chaplain.

Ellen J. Smith was born in Marion, Ohio, Feb. 26, 1838 - died at eight o'clock a.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, 1905. Her father moved to Kenton, Ohio, where her early girl and womanhood was spent. In 1867 the family moved to Cass county, Mo., where she was united in marriage to John R. Basiger Dec. 27, 1870, coming to Larned, Kans. in 1879, where she had since resided. two children, Nellie and Jessie, were born to them, both of whom preceded her to the Father's home. Mrs. Basiger united with the Presbyterian church at Kenton, Ohio, in early life, and was an earnest, faithful worker in the church and Band of Workers.

The last rites over this dear wife, mother and friend were attended by a large number of friends, who gave their last tribute by their presence, and she was laid to rest in Larned cemetery. Flowers, the most beautiful to be gathered, were placed beside her casket from friends far and near, and while with the sorrowing husband and the niece, Miss Geiger, who was more than a daughter, we give our tears of sympathy, still, for her there will be only a joyful awakening in the glorious Christmas in heaven.
