Mary Jane Gorman, 93, of Indianapolis (formerly of Evansville), passed away peacefully on Monday April 18, 2011 at Kindred Transcare in Indianapolis, IN after a short illness. She was born August 8, 1917 in Williamson, West Virginia, to Dr. William Jefferson and Vida Good Smith.

Mary Jane was a home economics graduate from University of Kentucky, where she met the love of her life, the late "Billy" Gorman. They were married on September 16, 1940. Together, they happily raised their five daughters who survive her: Mary Ann (Michael) Funke of Williston, Vermont; Marty (Tom) Rugh of Indianapolis, Indiana; Sally (Glenn) Riggs of Memphis, Indiana; Susie (Bob) McQuiston of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Betsy (Michael) Hennessy of Evansville, Indiana. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren who cherish memories with their beloved G.G. She was preceded in death by her husband William Joseph Gorman in 1976; her brother, Capt. Robert G. Smith in 2010, and her grandson, Rod Alen Fasone, who died of colon cancer in 1992 when he was 21 years old.

Mary Jane was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Rolling Hills Country Club, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and Little Sisters of the Poor Auxiliary. She was a founding member of the Chi Omega Social Sorority at the University of Evansville. Mary Jane was also an avid bridge player.

Visitation will be from 3:00 6:00 pm Monday April 25, 2011 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 with a memorial service at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:00 10:00 am Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3010 E Chandler, Evansville, IN 47714. A Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of Mary Jane's long life and devotion to her family will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the church with Msgr. Kenneth Knapp officiating.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of her grandson to the Rod Fasone Memorial Cancer Fund, c/o St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, 8402 Harcourt Road, Suite 210, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
