ST. ALBANS On Sunday evening, January 21, 2007, Avis Kenyon Smith, 83, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family at her side. She was born January 9, 1924, in Richmond, Vermont, to Mildred (Moore) and Esbon Kenyon.
AVIS KENYON SMITH
A Celebration of the Life of Avis Kenyon Smith, who passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, was held on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Reverend Herman Benjamin officiating. Ushers were Shirley Elliott and Elmer "Red" Bigelow.
The cross was placed on Avis' casket by her triplet daughters, Amelia, Polly Jane and Julie. Musical selections, "Precious Lord," and "Hymn of Praise," were sung by those in attendance. "Amazing Grace," "In the Garden," "The Rose," "Memories," and "Go Rest High on the Mountain" were by organist and vocalist, Mary Jo Gillilan. Special music, "Wind Beneath My Wings" was by Avis' granddaughter, Melinda Lampman. Poems, "When I Must Leave You" was read by granddaughter, Keeley Lebo and "Safely Home" was read by granddaughter, Elizabeth Smith. Words of Remembrance were shared by Avis' son, Samuel Smith; her granddaughter, Coralee Holm Zizza; her sister, Joyce Livak; and friends, Patricia Newton and Shirley Elliott.
In attendance was representation from Lang Associates, Montcalm Real Estate, St. Albans Lodge 1566, B.P.O.E., Colchester Volunteer Fire Department, Ed White Auto Sales, Franklin County Senior Center, McDonald's Coffee Group, King's Cove Restaurant, S.R. Smith Real Estate, Peoples Trust Company, Sticks & Stuff, St. Albans Town Clerk's Office and Select Board, Handy Chevrolet and Toyota, Vermont Federal Credit Union, St. Albans Co-Operative Creamery, Grice Brook Residential Community, Business and Professional Women's Group, Star Farm Nursing Facility, T&M Construction Company, Dickinson and Branon Dental Care, Office of H. Taylor Yates, MD, Law Office of Timothy Hurlbut, United Methodist Women, Faith and Hope Circle and Phi Alpha Class of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and several area dairy farmers.
Casket bearers were Avis' grandsons, Andrew Holm, Jacob Smith, Derrick Smith, Edwin Smith, Anthony Lampman and Michael Lebo.
A time of reflection and refreshments followed in the Fellowship Hall hosted by the Women's Mission Circles of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Prayers of Committal and Interment will take place later this spring in the Smith family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.
Assisting Avis' family is the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
