Dr. Joy G. Morgan, 60, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, at Greater Vision Community Church, in Killeen, with Pastor Dr. David G. Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at Chisholm Family Funeral Home, in Killeen.

Joy Gwenn was born in Marlin, Texas, to the late Roy Lynn Smith Sr. and Elola Sereffa Jackson Smith. Joy accepted Christ at an early age. Joy attended public schools in Waco, and graduated from Waco High School in 1970. Shortly after graduation, she joined the United States Army and served her nation unselfishly, with honor and distinction, for 20 years and retired as Sgt. First Class in 1991. While serving in the Army, Joy diligently pursued the educational goals she set for herself and attained one of her most esteemed achievements, a Doctorate of Philosophy and Addiction Counseling from Westbrook University in 1994. As the pastor's wife, she was a dedicated servant at Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church in Rockdale, Texas.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 20 years, the Rev. George Morgan Sr.; son, Otis Hinton Jr. and wife Jada, of Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Seantoya Hinton, of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren; sisters, Patricia A. Mathis, of Amarillo, Miley O. Pulliam and husband, Richard, Iva J. Smith, Izola S. Medlock and husband, Alvin, Naomi D. Smith, and Viva M. Jackson and husband, Lee, all of Waco; brothers, Roy L. Smith Jr., (her twin), of Houston, Elwin K. Smith and wife, Barbara, of Augusta, Ga., Dwight A. Smith, of Waco, Larry B. Smith and wife, Dorothy, of Lewisville, Garry T. Smith and wife, Yolanda, and Daryl L. Smith, all from Houston; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
