GALESBURG - Helen J. Smith, 86 1250 W. Carl Sandburg Drive, formerly of 1190 W. Grove St., died at 9:25 p.m. Sunday (May 6, 2007) in Cottage Hospital.
She was born Nov. 15, 1920, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Corliss and Gertrude McClean Oliver.
She married Ivan "Wayne" Smith in Missouri on Feb. 22, 1941.
Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Karen (and Paul) Jehling, Cheryl (and Edward) Ordaz and Pamela Whittom, all of Galesburg; a brother, James Oliver, Keokuk; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
She graduated from Keokuk High School in 1938. She moved to Galesburg in 1952. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. M.J. Fitch officiating. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
