Marie Louise (Smith) Banham, 67, entered into rest Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Michael K. Banham, sharing 16 years of marriage.
Born in York on December 4, 1944, Marie was the daughter of the late Richard D. and Mary Ellen (Martin) Smith.
After graduating from William Penn Senior High School in 1962 and attending York College, Mrs. Banham had a career in the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C., and foreign countries including Germany, Bangladesh, Greece, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Peru.
After marriage to Mr. Banham, a British Foreign Service Officer, they resided in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Spain. Mrs. Banham returned to York, accompanied by her husband, after living overseas for 25 years.
In addition to her husband Mrs. Banham is survived by a daughter, Holly Dalton, husband John and grandson, William James Dalton, of McLean, Va.; and daughter, Gretchen Graves and husband, Sean of Hagerstown, Md. She is also survived by one stepson, Mark Banham, wife Sandy, grandchildren Luke, Matthew and Charlotte; a stepdaughter, Julia Banham, grandchildren Kusal, Nisal and Aruna, all of the United Kingdom. One brother, Charles H. McAfee of York also survives her. She was preceded in death by another brother, Richard D. Smith, Jr.
The celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 2114 W. Market St., York, with the Rev. Richard B. Starr officiating. There will be a viewing one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery.
