Mabel Ruth Cronk, 83, of Shirland died at 11 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 5, 2007, in Medina Manor Nursing Center a few days after falling and breaking her hip. Born Mabel Smith on Jan. 21, 1924, in Greenfield, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Smith. Mabel married Robert Francis Cronk in Earlham, Iowa on June 17, 1939. Robert passed away on Mabel's birthday, Jan. 21, 1998.

The couple moved to Illinois during World War II, and then to Shirland in 1948. Mabel's health deteriorating health forced her to move from the family home in 2001. She lived her last days with her oldest son, Robert Jr.

Mabel is survived by her sons, Robert (Karol) Cronk, Rock City and Ronald (Christine) Cronk of Lakewood, Wash.; daughter, Sharon, died of liver cancer in 1999. Mabel and Robert have 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, in Shirland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roland Harkleroad, pastor, officiating.
