Evelyn L. Begalka, age 89, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva. She was born January 19, 1924, in Minnesota to Louis and Hilda Smith. Mrs. Begalka graduated from Mt. Saint Mary Academy, where she played volleyball and ran track for her high school. She received her RN degree from Sherman Hospital School of Nursing in Elgin. She worked at Community Hospital in Geneva and for Valley Haven Nursing Home in St. Charles. Mrs. Begalka is survived by two children, Michael Begalka and Barb Begalka, both of St. Charles, a nephew, Jim Emma of Geneva, and special friends, Kenny LaDue, Pat Moore, and Pat Cromblehome. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, her parents, and a sister, Irene Emma. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 7th, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 East Main Street, St. Charles. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St. (corner of Route 64 and Route 25), St. Charles. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 1710 South 7th Avenue, St. Charles, Illinois 60174.
