Marita Ann (Smith) Lesak
May 29, 1936 - October 25, 2002
Though she has been gone more than eight years now, we think of her always and remember her especially on the 75th anniversary of her birth this week.
She was born and raised in Berwyn, IL, where, after high school, she married Roy Lesak, her husband and best friend for life. While Roy was working 2 or 3 jobs in the early days, she raised her 3 daughters to be responsible and independent women.
Though she never took a paying job while her children were young, she worked tirelessly as a volunteer: Brownie and Junior Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, Room Mother, Picture Lady and Math Lab parent. When her children were grown, she continued volunteer work, especially enjoying her work in the OR waiting room at Community Hospital.
She was an accomplished seamstress, and could turn any discarded household item into an art project. She was a great cook and entertainer, and passed those skills on to her daughters.
She taught us, through her example, how to be a wonderful wife, mother, aunt and grandmother. She taught us that good manners and good taste have nothing to do with money.
Her skill at game shows, crossword puzzles and board games was legendary. Everyone wanted "Grammy" as their partner in Trivial Pursuit! She was an amazing wife and mother, but her role as "Grammy" may have been her greatest.
Mom, we love you and miss you. Thank you for all the things you taught us, shared with us, did for us. Happy 75th birthday!
With love from your daughters,
