Born June 20, 1926 in Elmira, Illinois a son of Abe Lewis & Elsie Simmons Smith, Dale married Norma J. Smith on January 10, 1946 in Mt. Sterling; she survives
A recipient of the Bronze Star Medal & 2 awards of the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Dale was a veteran of World II and the Korean conflict, having served his country in the United States Army for over 22 years, retiring in 1971 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer
Dale then worked for General Telephone for over 15 years before retiring.
He attended Brown County Schools. Mr. Smith was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling. He was also a member of the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Dale also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Allena Phillips and Bernice Smith and 2 brothers Lozelle and Raymond Smith.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling; Father Thomas Henseler & Father Steve Thompson officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery with military services conducted at graveside
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home
