Mary Laurie Cooke, a resident of Westminster Canterbury, died on July 1, 2005. She was born on May 22, 1916 in Gwalthmey, Virginia, a daughter of Henry Laurie Smith and Mary Hawes Tyler Smith of Richmond, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Watkins Cooke; two sisters, Keith Marshall Smith and Lydia Lewis Smith Harvie; and is survived by a niece, Virginia Harvie Creech; and nephews, Larry Harvie and Robert Harvie. She was a longtime member of The Colonial Dames, The Woman's Club, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, and The Country Club of Virginia. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The Virginia Home, 1101 Hampton St., Richmond, Va. 23220 or the Westminster Canterbury Foundation, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, Va. 23227.
