Dorothy Smith "Memaw" Hood (1933 - 2011)

Dorothy "Memaw" Smith Hood passed away Monday, May 2, 2011. Funeral was Friday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.

Memaw was born Sept. 13, 1933, in Cherokee County. She was a former employee of Rexall Drug Company in Fort Worth and a waitress at Howell's. Memaw graduated from Gene Prater Beauty School in 1982. She loved sewing, cooking, crocheting, quilting and working in the garden. Memaw was preceded in death by her parents, Ruthie and Delma Autrey; her husbands, Henry B. Smith and George Hood; and daughter, Ruthie Jane Harrison.

Survivors: Sons, Henry Smith Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Alvarado, Lynn Smith and wife, Brenda, of Lost Nation, Iowa, Norman Smith and wife, Billie, of Reno; daughters, Janet Eisenman and husband, Jimmy, of Haltom City, Wanda Wood and husband, Woody, of Saginaw, Elaine Darter and husband, Rusty Watts, of Burleson; stepchildren, Shella Hood, Ricky Hood, Greg Hood; sister, Cleo Rutherford of Rusk; brother, Lewis Autrey of Baytown; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two expected great-great-grandchildren.
