Mrs. A. B. Smith, a resident of the Doniphan community since 1883, died at nine o'clock this morning at her home in Doniphan. She had been in failing health for the past 15 years and an invalid for the past five years. Her son and two daughters were at her bedside when death came.
Abigail Odell was born in Berrien county, Michigan, Jan. 2, 1849, having observed her eighty-eighth birthday on Saturday of last week. When she was two years of age, the family moved to Delaware county, Iowa and on May 6, 1874, at Greeley, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Albert B. Smith. Two daughters and a son were born of their marriage.
In 1883, they came to Nebraska, establishing their home on a farm 2 miles southeast of Doniphan. They moved into the village of Doniphan, which since had been her home, in 1891. She united with the Christian church in girlhood and remained loyal to her Christian faith throughout her long life. Mrs. Smith also was a charter member of Doniphan chapter, No. 288, O.E.S.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clark Gideon and Miss Laura Smith, and a son, Will Smith, all of Doniphan, two grandchildren and an aged sister, Nannie Taylor, of Hopewill, Virginia. Her husband preceded her in death on December 29, 1926. bio coutesy of diaNEB (#47466150)
