KONZAK, LOLA MARJORIE—Lola Marjorie Konzak, the youngest daughter of Lloyd Alvin and Marjorie Izora (Kitzinger) Smith, was born in Harvard, January 27, 1930, and passed away on July 11, 2010, at the age of 80 yrs., five months and 15 days.

She was raised on a farm east of Harvard and attended rural school through the eighth grade. She graduated as salutatorian of Harvard High School with the class of 1947.

Lola was baptized in April of 1930 and confirmed into membership of the Harvard United Church of Christ in 1945. They hymn chosen by the class, “O Jesus, I Have Promised,” was a commitment that Lola tried to honor throughout her life.

After graduation she moved to Hastings and was employed as a secretary for an investment and insurance company. This is where she met her future husband.

On January 29, 1950, she and Earl Andrew Konzak were united in marriage and moved to their farm northwest of Shickley, where their five children were raised. Lola was a hard working farm wife who spent much of her time assisting Earl.

The family became active members of the Federated Church in Sutton, where Lola taught Sunday school and participated in the Women’s Fellowship.

After Earl’s stroke in 1970, they remained on the farm until 1982, and then they moved to Geneva. This is the home they enjoyed for their remaining years together.
Lola met many new friends in Geneva and was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Geneva Mother’s Club, the Kensington Club, and Bryant Extension Club of Shickley.

After Earl’s death in 1987, she traveled to Alaska, Hawaii and throughout the United States with her friends and family.

Lola was a caregiver. She cared for her mother, husband, children, and grandchildren. Lola especially enjoyed children. She felt very privileged to be a part of Max and Sharon Miller, Dave and Jeanie Wythers, and Jason and Micky Tatro families’ lives.

Lola started working at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in 1994. This service was a big part of her life and enabled her to continue her role as a caregiver.

Lola is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Izora Smith; her husband’s parents, Frank and Mattie Konzak and husband, Earl.

Those remaining to honor her memory are her sons, Ronald, James and special friend Ranee Hoarty; daughters, Diane and Les Hill, Marilyn and Marc Krause; and Karen and Jon Lichti; grandchildren, Tara and Rob Richards, Jami and Scott Potthoff, Marcy and Brian Benge, Brian and Jennifer Hill, Scott Hill, Gerad Krause; Nick Krause; and Ashley Krause; great-grandchildren, Abby and Luke Richards, Jaret Potthoff, Austin Hill, Sylvie Benge; sister, Laura Ljunggren and husband Lester, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held on July 15 at the United Methodist Church in Geneva with Pastor Ron Harris officiating. Sondra Myers accompanied Delwin Myers in the singing of “Beautiful Garden of Prayer,” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.” She also accompanied the congregation in the singing of “It is Well With My Soul.”

Pallbearers for the service included Brian, and Scott Hill, Gerad, and Nick Krause, Rob and Tara Richards, Scot and Jami Potthoff, Brian and Marcy Benge, Ashley Krause, and Jennifer Hill.
