MRS. C. G. BENNEWITZ, OLD RESIDENT, IS DEAD
Mrs. Caroline G. Bennewitz, 68 years old, a resident here for twenty-seven years, died at a local hospital early Sunday morning after an illness lasting three years. She had been confined to her bed at the hospital for five weeks.
Mrs. Bennewitz was born in Indiana and came to Nebraska with her husband, the late Nicholas B. Bennewitz, in 1889. He died thirteen years ago. They went to Grand Island and came to Omaha twenty-seven years ago, Mr. Bennewitz having charge of the hardware department of the Hayden Brothers' store for many years.
She is survived by a son, John A. Bennewitz, 4023 Lafayette avenue, former secretary to Senator Hitchcock and now contract attorney for the Union pacific System lines, and a daughter, Mrs. George A. Keyser of the Virgin Islands, where her husband is United States attorney. Three brothers, Joseph F. Smith of Omaha, George Smith of Frankfort, Ind., and John A. Smith of Indianapolis, Ind., and two sisters, Mrs. Sophia C. Aveline of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. S. Spitznagle of Council Bluffs, also survive.
The funeral will be Tuesday, at 8:30 from the house and 9 o'clock from St. Cecilia's cathedral. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre.
