Florence S. Butler, 85, of Fulton, Missouri went home with her Lord on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Columbia Health Center. She was born February 28, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of George Sheppard and Allie Dean (House) Smith. On October 10, 1959 she married James Bulter. He preceeded her in death on January 7, 2009.
Mrs. Butler graduated from Sumner High School in St. Louis and continued her education at Missouri Western Bible College. She spent her early employment years as a teacher. She also worked as a ward clerk at University Medical Center. She worked as a Psych Aide at Fulton State Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of Latter House Ministeries in Columbia as well as Youth Director of Mt. Carmel District Association. She was a devoted ministers wife for many years.
She will be lovingly missed by two sons, Virgil M. Butler of Fulton and James Michael (Jackie) Butler of Fulton, two daughters, Lois (Cliff) Nevins of Fulton and Valarie Butler of Columbia, nine grandchildren, Danielle, Duane, Jared, Josh, Dion, Maria, Alexis, Chrishama and Shawndez, three great-grandchildren, four foster grandchildren and numerous neices and nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband, step-father, Reverand Isaiah Smith and grandson , Netherius Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30AM Tuesday, January 18, at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with Reverand Enos Chamberland officiating. Burial will follow in Callaway Memorial Gardins. The family will recieve friends from 9:00AM until the time of service.
In liew of flowers, memorials are suggested to the United Negro College.
