WEST BUXTON- Grace Smith Plummer, age 89, of Buxton, passed away in her sleep at her home with members of her family at her side on May 6, 2010. She is a daughter of Ethan E. Smith and Olive Libby Smith, both deceased. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years Reginald G. Plummer Sr. and a brother Donald E. Smith. Grace is survived by her sister Dorothy Philbrick and her husband Jesse Sr. of Saco, her two sons, Reginald G. Plummer Jr. and his wife Sandra of Limerick and Barry W. Plummer and his wife Beth of Buxton. Grandchildren: Troy Plummer and his wife Cindy of Limington, Dawn Plummer Lucier and her partner Chris Rule of Scarborough, Jody Plummer McBride and her husband Whitney of Thornwood, N.Y, Gayle Plummer Tracy and her husband David of Mattapoisett, Mass., Garrett Plummer and his wife Candy of Buxton, Chris Plummer and his wife Tina, a step-grandson Myles Garland of Limerick, sisters-in-law Betty Plummer Fleetwood and Madeline Huston Plummer, daughter-in-law Joan Link Plummer. Grace attended Hollis schools and graduated from Hollis High School in 1939. Grace was very proud of the many years she worked with husband Reg and other members of the Plummer family helping to run and grow the stores in Buxton and Hollis. Graces' fondest memories were of the times spent with family watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up; the marathon days spent playing scrabble and visiting with her beloved sister and closest friend Dorothy; visiting and traveling with very dear friends Charles and "Floss" Townsend with her husband Reg; spending time with her former neighbor and good friend Janette Darling who always made her happy; and the many lunch dates she shared with her dear friend Betsy Clay whom she referred to as the daughter she never had. Grace was a life long and avid Yankees fan, much to the chagrin of her family. She also was very fond of country western music; her favorite performer being Charlie Pride. In her later years she received much joy from watching the Oprah Winfrey show. The family wishes to thank the staff at the P3CD unit at Maine Medical Center in Portland for going above and beyond in their care of Grace during her last days. Visiting hours will be on Saturday, May 8, from 2-4 PM, followed by a 4 PM service at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, located on the corners of Rts 202 and 4A (13 Portland Rd) in Buxton (Bar Mills). Extra parking will be available at 25 Portland Rd, next to the funeral home. She will be buried at a later date next to her husband at Hillcrest Cemetery in Hollis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The American Lung Association 122 State St. Augusta, ME. 04330.
