Alice M Smith (Sep 1868 Steuben, Washington, Maine - 18 Oct 1902 Steuben, Washington, Maine). She was the daughter of Alexander Wesley Smith (1828 – 1920) and Lucretia Smith (1832 – 1895) and grew up with her siblings Bartlett (1862 –) and Justin W Smith (1865 – 1937) and Olive (1859 – 1860) who died young.

In Steuben, Washington, Maine, she married Howard C Baker (Apr 1865 Steuben, Washington, Maine - died between 1920 and 1930 in Steuben, Washington, Maine) the son of Henry C Baker (3 Jun 1827 Steuben, Washington, Maine - 29 Jun 1897 Portland, Cumberland, Maine) and Sarah C Curtis (23 Aug 1834 Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts - 9 Jan 1900 Steuben, Washington, Maine).

Howard C Baker and Alice M Smith had three children:

1) Unnamed Baker (who died at birth on 16 Nov 1899 in Steuben, Washington, Maine).

2) Theodore K Baker (9 Jul 1901 Steuben, Washington, Maine - 23 Jan 1986 Machias, Washington, Maine).

3) Lucretia Baker (09 Jul 1902 Steuben, Washington, Maine - 21 Feb 1903 Steuben, Washington, Maine) who died as an infant.

On 18 Oct 1902 Alice died. Her daughter Lucretia died a few months later on 21 Feb 1903. Her husband went to live with his sister Nettie (Baker) Smith (1872 – 1920) and her husband Henry M Smith (1870 – 1925) in Bar Harbor, Maine (then called Eden, Maine). His other brother Kenneth R Baker (1877 – 1932) lived there for a time as well before moving North to Ashland, Aroostook, Maine, and getting married to Effie J Furrow (1881 – 1970). His only surviving child, Theodore K Baker, moved in with Theodore K Baker's maternal uncle, Justin W Smith (1865 – 1937 Alice M Smith's brother) and his wife Mary Esther Phelps (1870 –). Theodore K Baker was sill living with Justin W Smith's widow Mary in the 1940 census.

On 1 Jun 1918 in Steuben, at the age of 53, Howard C Baker married second, Emma McConihe (born about 1879 and died between 1920 and 1930) the daughter of Lewis A McConihe (1841 – 1903) and Susan E Brown (1845 – 1891). She was the widow of Joel A Emery. She predeceased Howard in death. He passed away between 1930 and 1940. He was buried in Daniel Godfrey Cemetery next to his first wife Alice M Smith.
